Spades was invented in the USA in the 1930's and is played quite widely in that country but has since gained international popularity, mainly due to the Internet. It is a plain-trick game in which Spades are always trumps. You and your partner bid how many tricks the partnership will make and you score points if you make your bid (or lose points if you fall short).
First partnership to score 500 wins the game.
